For me, astrology is a mirror, not a script. And sometimes a mirror is exactly what we need at a crossroads.
Which Crossroads Are You Standing At?
In my work, I tend to see the crossroads take three shapes. You may recognize yourself in one. Or, as is often the case, you may be standing in more than one at the same time.
The career crossroads. The career I've built no longer feels like me. Perhaps you've become very good at something you no longer want to spend your life doing. Nothing has necessarily gone wrong. You may even be successful. But the identity you've inhabited for years has started to feel too small for the person you're becoming.
The business crossroads. There's something I want to build, but I don't know whether I can trust it yet. Maybe it's a business you've been circling for years. A skill you've always downplayed. An idea that keeps returning after you've rationally dismissed it. The question isn't necessarily whether you can build it. It's whether you're willing to take seriously the part of you that wants to.
The intuitive crossroads. Something is pulling me somewhere I can't logically explain. This is perhaps the hardest one for our rational minds. There's no spreadsheet proving the direction. No perfect argument. Just a quiet signal. In Finnish, I think about this as kuuleminen — hearing. The private kind of hearing that happens when you become quiet enough to notice your own signal before it's provable.
Sometimes you're standing in all three at once. And that's often where a birth chart becomes particularly interesting.
What Is Career Astrology, Really?
Career astrology is the practice of reading your birth chart — the map of the sky at the moment you were born — for themes connected to work, purpose, visibility, responsibility, and contribution. It isn't a horoscope telling you what's going to happen next. And it isn't a personality test handing you the perfect career. It's a symbolic language for exploring yourself more deeply — including the parts of you that don't fit neatly into a job title.
At its simplest, a birth chart has three layers: planets describe what energy we're looking at, signs describe how that energy expresses itself, and houses show where in life it tends to appear.
In career astrology, we're interested in how those layers come together around questions like:
How am I wired to work and contribute? What kind of visibility feels natural — or challenging — for me? Where do responsibility and ambition show up? What themes keep following me through different careers and chapters? And what direction might I already be growing toward?
Not prediction. Not fate carved in stone before you were born. A map. And you remain the person holding it.
What Can Your Birth Chart Reveal About Your Career?
A career birth chart doesn't tell you which job to take. Instead, we look for patterns. How do you naturally work? What kind of responsibility do you carry? How do you relate to ambition and visibility? What happens when you're trying to fit yourself into someone else's definition of success? What themes seem to repeat, even when the job title changes?
In a career astrology reading, one place we may look is the Midheaven, or MC, and the tenth house — the area of the chart traditionally associated with vocation, public life, and contribution. But no single placement tells the whole story. We read it alongside the rest of the chart: your Sun, your chart ruler, the planets involved, the signs and houses they occupy, and the relationships between them.
Slowly, a pattern begins to emerge. Not: here's what you should do. More like: here's another way to understand what has been happening. What do you notice when you see yourself through this lens?
That distinction matters to me. Because I don't believe your birth chart should have more authority over your life than you do.
Career Astrology and Soul Purpose
Underneath questions about career, there's often another question. What am I actually here to do?
I don't believe a birth chart can reduce your soul purpose to one tidy sentence. But it can offer a fascinating way to explore the deeper themes of purpose, growth, and meaning running underneath what you do.
In my readings, this can include looking at the lunar nodes — the direction of growth represented in the chart — and Chiron, traditionally associated in modern astrology with the archetype of the wounded healer.
And this is where the conversation often becomes much more interesting than what career should I have? We might begin asking: What am I growing toward? What have I had to learn the hard way? What has life repeatedly asked me to understand? What do I now know because I've lived it — not because I studied it? And perhaps: what part of that experience wants to become something I give back?
There is often a relationship between the territory we've had to travel ourselves and the contribution we eventually make. Not because every wound needs to become a business. And certainly not because difficult experiences happen in order to teach us something. But because what we've lived changes what we're able to see. And sometimes our work begins there.
What If I'm Just Restless?
Here's the honest question underneath all of this — the one people don't always say out loud: is this restlessness actually telling me something? Or am I getting older and dressing ordinary discomfort up as a calling?
I can't answer that for you. And I don't think an astrologer should.
What astrology can do is give us another perspective from which to explore the question. Perhaps we notice that a theme you're experiencing now has been present in different forms throughout your life. Perhaps we see tension between the identity you've built and qualities that haven't had much room to breathe. Perhaps the chart gives language to something you've sensed but haven't been able to articulate. Or perhaps you simply leave with a better question. That's valuable too.
The purpose isn't to make astrology the authority. It's to help you hear yourself.
Astrology Is a Mirror, Not a Script
This is the heart of how I work with astrology.
A birth chart reading, done well, isn't someone telling you who you are. And it certainly isn't someone telling you what will happen to you. Astrology, in my hands, is a mirror, not a script. I don't hand you a fixed identity or a five-year forecast. I show you the themes, tensions, and possibilities I see in your particular chart, and we explore what you recognize there.
There's no template behind this, ever — your chart couldn't belong to anyone else, and neither could the conversation it leads to.
You decide what it means. You decide what you do next. Free will runs through all of it. Your chart is a map. You're still the traveller.
Business Astrology: When the Crossroads Is Your Business
Not every crossroads is about leaving a career behind. Sometimes you've already made the leap. You built the business. And now that no longer fits. Or perhaps you're standing at the very beginning, wondering whether the thing you've quietly wanted to create deserves to become real.
This is where business astrology becomes another interesting lens. Instead of trying to fit yourself into someone else's launch formula, leadership style, niche, or definition of entrepreneurship, we can look at questions such as:
How do I naturally lead? How do I experience visibility? What kind of responsibility suits me? Where might I be forcing myself into a way of working that isn't mine? What would this business look like if it actually fit the person building it?
Again, the chart doesn't design the business for you. It gives us another language for the conversation. Strategy still matters. So does intuition. So does what you've learned from actually living your life. I don't think we need to choose between them.
Staying True to Yourself at a Crossroads
One of the strange things about a crossroads is that the old path often still works. That's what makes leaving — or even questioning it — so difficult.
You can be successful and want something different. You can be grateful and restless. You can love what your career has given you and know that you're no longer the person who chose it. And you don't have to throw everything away. Your expertise comes with you. Your experiences come with you. Your relationships, judgment, curiosity, mistakes, and everything you've learned along the way come too.
The question becomes less: who should I become now? And perhaps more: what part of me is ready to have more room?
That's a beautiful question to bring to a birth chart.

Common Questions About Career Astrology and Soul Purpose Readings
What is my soul's purpose according to astrology? I don't believe a birth chart gives you one predetermined purpose or career. Instead, placements such as the lunar nodes, Midheaven, and Chiron can offer different perspectives on themes of growth, vocation, contribution, and experience. I prefer to read these together as part of the whole chart rather than treating one placement as the answer.
Can career astrology tell me what career I should choose? No — and I wouldn't want it to. Career astrology can help you explore patterns around work, purpose, visibility, and contribution, but you remain the person making the decision. Think of your birth chart as a map rather than a set of instructions.
Is career astrology fortune-telling? Not in the way I practice it. I don't use a birth chart to tell you what will happen or what decision you're destined to make. I use astrology as a symbolic language for reflection, self-understanding, and exploring possibilities.
What's the difference between a birth chart reading and a Crossroads reading? A general birth chart reading introduces you to the foundations of your natal chart and some of its central themes. A Crossroads reading has a specific lens: the transition you're standing in now. Do I need to know anything about astrology beforehand? Not at all. You don't need to know your houses, planets, or aspects — or even understand what a Midheaven is. I'll guide you through what we're looking at and why it might matter. You simply bring yourself and whatever curiosity brought you here.
